Transmission swaps and custom drivetrain installations often rotate the transfer case upward for additional driveshaft clearance or a flatter belly pan. When this occurs, filling through the original fill hole can result in insufficient oil capacity. Installing the sight glass provides a visual reference so the transfer case can be filled to an adequate oil level and helps prevent premature wear caused by insufficient lubrication.
