The steering rods on the Land Rover Discovery 1 1989 to 1998 were designed to a reasonable standard for mixed road and light off-road use, but they are a known weak point for owners who push their Rovers harder. The standard hollow-tube construction is adequate for everyday driving but offers limited resistance to bending under the lateral loads that come with serious off-road use, lifted suspension, or larger tires. A bent or damaged track rod or drag link can compromise steering accuracy and, in extreme cases, create a genuine safety concern. The DA5504 Heavy Duty Steering Arms Kit replaces both the track rod and drag link on the Discovery 1 with solid steel bars engineered specifically for the demands of off-road driving. The increase in material cross-section over the OEM hollow tubes translates directly into greater resistance to bending, giving the front steering geometry far more resilience when navigating rocky terrain, deep ruts, or other obstacles that exert side loads on the steering rods.
