The rear axle half shaft seals on the Range Rover P38 are among the more commonly neglected service items on these Rovers, and they are one of the easier ones to catch before they become a problem. Their job is to retain the differential and axle oil on one side and keep road contamination out on the other. When they begin to fail, the signs are usually visible before any real damage is done: an oily residue on the inside face of the rear wheel, dampness around the hub area, or differential oil that is dropping level faster than it should. Left unaddressed, a weeping axle seal eventually allows enough oil loss to run the differential low, and at that point the repair bill becomes significantly more serious than a pair of seals. This is the Corteco branded version of the FTC5209 rear hub axle seal, supplied under the part number FTC5209G. Corteco is a specialist sealing systems manufacturer with a long history of supplying precision oil seals and gaskets to the automotive industry as an original equipment supplier. The FTC5209G is made in the UK and is a direct fit replacement for the factory seal on the Range Rover P38 across the full 1995 to 2002 production run. It directly replaces the earlier FTC2803 specification and is the correct current part number for both left-hand and right-hand rear hub positions. One seal is included per listing. Two seals are required for a complete rear axle reseal. Replacement is typically performed at the same time as a rear axle oil service and is a straightforward job for anyone with basic mechanical experience and the appropriate hub tools.
