The MTC8951D heated rear door glass is the 5mm tailgate window for a Land Rover Defender 90 or Defender 110 built up to 1988, supplied by Allmakes 4x4 and Britpart. It is the full glass panel with the heating element bonded in, so it replaces a cracked, crazed or delaminating original outright rather than patching it. Check the year before you order. This is the early glass. Land Rover changed the rear end door part way through production, and vehicles built after 1988 take a different window, so a 1994 Defender is not a candidate for this one. If your Rover is newer than 1988, this is not the glass you want. Worth knowing if you are shopping by name. The vehicles this fits were sold as the Ninety and the One Ten when they were new. Land Rover only adopted the Defender name in 1990, so an early Ninety and a Defender 90 are the same vehicle under two badges, and both are what this glass is for. The rear door glass takes more abuse than any other window on one of these. It sits on the panel that swings open every time something goes in the back, it carries the weight of the spare wheel on the door with it, and it lives directly in the spray coming off the rear tires. Chips turn into cracks, and a cracked tailgate window is not something you drive around with for long. This is toughened glass rather than laminated, E marked and DOT marked, so it is road legal in both the UK and the United States. The tint is clear and the thickness is 5mm. The heating element is the reason to buy this version rather than a plain pane. A Rover with no rear demist is one you reverse by mirror in cold weather, and the element in this glass connects to the factory wiring. Fitting is a job for someone who has done bonded or rubber set glass before.
